The Story of how Imagination and Ingenuity Can Change a Family, a Village and a Nation

At 14 years old, William Kamkwamba dropped out of school due to poverty. Even though his parents couldn’t afford school fees but his mind did not stop working. He decided to use his time, his hands and his curious mind to trying things at home while his friends were at school.

Though he was not in a classroom, William continued to think, learn—and dream. Armed with curiosity, determination and a library book he discovered in a nearby library, he embarked on a daring plan—to build a windmill. Williams eventually built an electricity-producing windmill from spare parts and scrap parts. His windmill did not only provide electricity, it also provided water to his home in rural Malawi.

Since then, he has built a solar-powered water pump that supplies the first drinking water in his village and two other windmills. William’s windmill has attracted international attention and his story was chronicled in the 2013 award-winning feature-length documentary, “William and the Windmill”
He also wrote a book, an autobiography, titled “The boy who harnessed the wind” which was selected as a required book for all incoming students at the Auburn University, Alabama (United States)

What destroys others also makes others to shine. It all depends on your mindset/perception of life. Lack of a formal education is a death sentence to some and an opportunity to explore for others. Divorce is a death sentence to some and freedom to others. Challenges/pain are the reason some are so broken and the reason some are so strong…. Complaining is easy, playing victim is easy, blaming your parents or the government is easy….

The question is can you make lemonade out of the lemons life throws at you? Nothing, I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING can stop anyone who is determine to rise and write their name on the sands of time not only in their community or country but also on the world’s timeline.
