Three months before I completing high school, I choose
to drop out. My teacher must have sparked me the day he asked every student to
explain what he/she wants to be when they grow up. My answer was "I want
to be rich"....to which my teacher responded, “getting rich is not a
profession". The teacher then said to me “go sell alcohol or charcoal to
get rich”. And In my youthful curiosity thought, it made sense. The following
day I never returned to class but went to the market and started selling egg
plants and that was the beginning of my business journey. Stepping into the
unknown journey of millions
That was 11years ago, I was age 20. Between 20 to 26
years I started 13 different businesses and they all collapsed. I went through
poverty to riches, then back to poverty, to being broke, to bankrupt, to poverty
until I was heavy in debt. By age 26, I had a debt higher than my annual income
combined. But I never gave up.
I started afresh to build my life until today where I
have 3 successful businesses, APRIL FINANCE, APRIL TRADING and APRIL LOGISTICS.
All known as APRIL GROUP LTD of which I am the CEO here in Uganda. We recently acquired APRIL
CONSTRUCTION. I will share more with you some substantial lessons all embedded
in my street experiences. Issues around FRUGALITY, BOOTSTRAPPING, PAYING DEBTS,
PARTNERSHIPS, INVESTMENT, NEGOTIATIONS, etc.
Stay tune for the next part.
