According
to Wikipedia, Initially,
Zuckerberg wrote a program called "Facemash" in 2003 while attending Harvard
University as a sophomore (second year student). According to The Harvard
Crimson, the site was comparable to Hot or Not and used "photos compiled
from the online facebooks of nine Houses, placing two next to each other at a
time and asking users to choose the “hotter” person". Facemash attracted 450 visitors and 22,000
photo-views in its first four hours online. The Facemash site was quickly
forwarded to several campus group list-servers, but was shut down a few days
later by the Harvard administration. Zuckerberg faced expulsion and was charged
by the administration with breach of security, violating copyrights, and violating
individual privacy. Ultimately, the charges were dropped. Zuckerberg did not
give up. He continued to expand on his idea and in that same semester created a
social study tool which today is what we know as Facebook. He established the
foundations of Facebook while still a student at Harvard, which eventually lead
to him dropping out.
Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook on February 4,
2004; 13 years ago
at the age of 19. Zuckerberg
started Facebook at Harvard for students to match names with faces in class
which today is matching names with faces globally. In following his dream, he has not only changed
his life but also the lives of thousands of other people globally. Facebook has
20,658 employees as of June 2017 up from only 150
people in 2006. the social networking tech giant company has certainly experienced
beyond exponential growth.
With that said, at the very core of it, life isn’t all about the green, the glitz and the glams. It’s about building a legacy the world can feed on when you're long gone. Its about changing our society for the better. Because when it’s all said and done, you won’t be taking your piggy bank with you to the grave. Therefore, find your your calling, find your voice, find your own gift and share it with the world because Zuckerberg has certainly done it. That's the power of one man’s dream who didn't give it up for a salary, or for friends or family. Never give up on your dreams or idea!
